Our trip to Columbia Glacier was fantastic! Captain Alan Steed taught us all about the Alyeska Marine Terminal, the oil tankers, S.E.R.V.S., and PWSRCAC. We learned about the animals in the sound and saw quite a few of them. It was an overcast day and pretty wet, but it was still a blast. We learned all about the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill and how there is still oil buried on some of the beaches in the sound. Columbia Glacier was beautiful. We saw lots of icebergs too. While on board we also participated in a scavenger hunt. We were able to locate most of the things on our list. Some of us had never been out on a boat in Prince William Sound, so it was a first time adventure. The crew on the boat pulled some ice out of the water with a net and broke it up so we could all taste a piece of glacier ice. Prince William Sound is a beautiful place. It is important to take care of it, so everyone can enjoy it.
